DESCRIPTION:

  1. About the campus
    The University of Malaya invites APAIE 2019 delegates to explore our beautiful campus including a UNESCO heritage building and a botanical garden.

    Founded in 1905, the University of Malaya is Malaysia’s oldest university. Now with a size of approximately 28,300 students, it is the premier university in Malaysia and ranked 87th in the QS World University Rankings. The university is a comprehensive research- intensive institution and has several research clusters to promote multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary and transnational research covering a breadth of areas from technology, science, equitable society and humanities.
     
  2. Brief explanation about the venue
    Datuk Ir. (Dr.) Abdul Rahim Hashim, Vice-Chancellor invites APAIE 2019 delegates to a campus tour which includes the following:
    • University of Malaya Art Gallery (UMAG) which showcases unique artworks from renowned international artists. Delegates will also be presented with a display of community project engagements that have been carried out by the University of Malaya.
    • Dewan Tunku Canselor (Main Hall) which is one of Malaysia's most iconic buildings and a UNESCO Heritage Building. The building was named and officiated by the first prime minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman on 25 June 1996 where he became the university's chancellor at that time.
    • Rimba Ilmu, or "The Forest of Knowledge", a tropical botanical garden set up in the University of Malaya campus. Established in 1974, the garden occupies an area of 80 hectares, with living collections of over 1,600 species.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVE(S):

  • To raise awareness of our local cultural heritage of the “Mah Meri Community”.
  • To learn about Malaysia’s plant life and rich natural heritage.
  • To provide a platform for international network and potential collaborations.
  • To learn more about the University of Malaya.
